Learn Grow: Edible Plant Information Resources
In addition, the site has two disks available that should be of direct interest to Australian permaculturists:
- Edible Plants in Tasmania
The CD titled "Edible Plants in Tasmania" contains detailed information on almost 1,400 edible plants occurring in Tasmania, including natives, introduced plants and weeds. Each CD contains a database that can be searched electronically and a complete book in PDF that can be printed out. There are also Powerpoint presentations with interesting information about many of the plants. - Food Plants in Australia
A DVD titled "Food Plants in Australia" contains similar information on the 5,500 edible plants occurring nationally. A bonus folder with interesting information on specific food groups is also included on the disk.
I haven’t personally had opportunity to see these disks yet, so would welcome feedback via comments below if you have.
By purchasing these disks you are supporting the ongoing development of the kind of regional plant lists you see bulleted at top.
Sharing information on our world’s natural capital is of the utmost importance. If we can develop such information, and also include aspects such as plant guilds, support species, etc., then we can secure food security for all.
