New Urban Permaculture DVD Getting Close

Back in January we shared news about, and a snippet of, our upcoming Urban Permaculture DVD. This DVD is something I’ve been pressing upon Geoff and our video/animation wizard, Frank Gapinski, for a while now (ever since I started helping out the PRI in fact!). My incessant nagging seems to have paid off, and we’re now very close to release. (The boys haven’t given me an ETA yet, but perhaps we’ll squeeze that out of them soon too.)
I’m very conscious of the need to get good urban permaculture info and inspiration out to the masses, as too few have the acreage to get enthused by a lot of permaculture material that’s been put out there to date. More than half of the world’s population now live in cities — and this is especially true of the high-energy civilisations of the North — and unfortunately this trend is not abating. Why learn about broad acre permaculture and earthworks, etc., if you’re wholly unable to implement the knowledge? Also, I feel confident that as our energy costs continue to skyrocket, and our economies continue to nose-dive as a result, our towns and cities have the potential to become extremely ugly and dangerous places indeed — unless a permaculture vision of localised design and interdependency starts to rapidly take hold! We should realise that to benefit from permaculture design concepts, you don’t have to pack up the kids, dog and kitchen sink and head into the hills. Permaculture in close-quarter situations has enormous potential, and we hope this upcoming release will be an excellent tool to inspire and instruct you to this end.
