Vandana Shiva: The Future of Food

Food Shortages, GMOs, Soil Erosion & Contamination, Water Contaminaton & Loss — by Craig Mackintosh PRI Editor February 21, 2011

Vandana Shiva shares a lucid discussion on Monsanto’s inexplicable view of nature as the enemy of mankind, and their determination to sell us ‘liberation’ from it. Aside from being an impossible battle, it’s also a wholly misguided one, based on a self-interested, short-term-thinking profit mentality, rather than the much needed acceptance of, and cooperation with, biological realities we need to see instead.

  • “We need a whole new agriculture,” Wilson says, one that replaces conventional crops like wheat. See: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/nature/conversation-eo-wilson.html

  • Free local seeds given to whoever wants to grow them and save the seeds? That is a reality.
    Check it here.

In Vedic culture, annadana or the Gift of Seed, seeds and grains/cereals are given freely, not sold.
Having said that Seed Savers favours community/household-based seed enterprises as a resistance and response to large scale Monsanto style seed monopolies.

  • I can’t see these video clips (Parts I to III) on my screen. All that displays is a message “Whoops! Missing embed param: file”. Is this because I need special software to read them, or have they been deleted?

  • Hi JW – they work fine for me.

  • Hmm.. I switched to Internet Explorer and note the same issue. After a quick google, I see this error showing up a lot in the search results.

At this point I can only suggest viewing with Firefox, as it works fine with that browser.

  • For those that not have Firefox you can see it from my new blog, as I’ve set up these series using You Tube: http://permaliv.blogspot.com/2011/03/vandana-shiva-matens-framtid.html
