Can't speak for the others, but Amaranth isn't a weed. It's a food. The seeds are as good a protein source as soybeans.

If people thought outside of the box a little, and agriculture wasn't designed only for monoculture, we wouldn't be in this sort of mess.

yeah as cruel as it sounds, this is a good thing for us. this will keep proving that the same old wont work and you need to go organic or loose. Funny how in the video the representative for monsanto blamed the farmer for misusing the pesticide hahaha. bastards, hope they burn.

Palmer amaranth seems like a good choice for green manure to enrich nitrogen-poor soils, due to its habit of absorbing high levels of nitrates.

I like to eat amaranth leaves, but usually these are of a variety of Amaranthus hybridus that grow in a semi-wild state. (I live in a large city.)

UNSTOPPABLE SUPERWEED THAT CAN'T BE KILLED... except by every means ever used to kill it prior to the advent of glyphosate.

the theory behind the use of herbicides and pesticides is intrinsically flawed. there is little point engineering the super-crop or designing the perfect chemical. natural genetic variation in all plants and insects is so broad, that it ensures there is an ultimate survivor. those herbicide companies aren't stupid, they know resistance is an inevitability.

i look at those weeds with great optimism. they are great news! imagine one years mulch from that super-weed, decaying on the fields in windrows, mulching the following year's cotton crop? that superweed had so much biomass, both under and above the ground. all they need is a sturdy slasher, and the soil and cotton wouldn't look back.

on the topic of genetic engineering. its laughable to incorporate genes from one plant to put into a crop species because in the end you will just introduce diseases and other weaknesses suffered by the former into your crop. its like upgrading your car by using the wheels from a train. sure its stronger but will it work?
