I just watched the last series in the fantastic new nature documentary film from the South Pasific Ocean, by BBC and Discovery, at SVT2. This last series was about the future of this ocean, showing positive examples but also the brutal truth.

In the film they also filmed from inside a trawlers net outside Papua New Guinea, catshing 150 tons of tuna in one catch. But this country has a well regulated fishery. What really disturbed me was what was going on in the international oceans, which is not regulated. Out there they filmed a Spanish trawler, 7 times bigger than the already huge trawler from Papua New Guinea, also fishing tuna.

What in the world is this enormous trawler from the European Union doing in the middle of the South Pasific Ocean? Of course, it is because Spain has already overexploited their own fisheries. And I’m sure this trawler was supported from EU-founds, using the taxpayers money. Some sienticts fear the tuna fish population in the Pasific Ocean might collapse already in five years!

This cannot go on. All fisheries in international oceans MUST STOP NOW!!!!
