Everything You HAVE TO KNOW about Dangerous Genetically Modified Foods
GMOs, Health & Disease — by Craig Mackintosh January 10, 2010
Monsanto will be rubbing their hands together in tentative glee as the powers that be in the UK – who preside over a citizenry that traditionally reject GM crop ‘technology’ – try to scare everyone into surrendering to the mega-corp via their latest Food 2030 report.
Whilst a food crisis certainly threatens, adding to the crisis by planting GMOs all over ‘Ol Blighty would less than help.
For those not aware of the importance of battling GMOs every step of the way, I embed the clip below. Jeffrey Smith is the tireless foe of all things GM. He has accumulated considerable knowledge of the topic and works hard to spread this knowledge in every way possible. I would certainly recommend his books for a more detailed examination, but the video presentation here is an excellent intro to the topic to get you up to speed.

This would have to be the most urgent problem that humanity has to deal with NOW…

I didn’t know if I wanted to laugh or cry.

Cry would be my choice Glen.
You’ll find this post I wrote quite some time ago on the antics of the CSIRO very interesting:

An organisation with a definite agenda….

We can stop greedy corporations like Monsanto by Voting with Our Wallets. If we continue to buy Genetically Engineered Foods, we support these companies. And let’s stop buying seeds from seed companies owned by them, too.
Here in the USA, Genetic Modification is not allowed to be identified on packages. Buy organic, buy local, grow our own. These crops must be purchased organic or with the Non-GMO sticker on them.
Current Commercial GM Crops in USA:
(estimated % of US total crops)
1. Soy (89%) look for it in bread with soy flour and soy oil, soy milk, soy protein powder, chocolate – soy lecithin;
2. Cotton (83%) in Chips and snacks fried in cottonseed oil
3. Canola (75%) Oil, fried products, health foods, baked goods
4. Corn (61%)- Thousands of products, High Fructose Corn syrup, corn starch, corn oil, corn flour
5. Hawaiian papaya (more than 50%)
6. Alfalfa (small amount)
7. Zucchini and yellow squash (small amount)
8. Quest® Tobacco
9. Sugar from beets (50%) almost entirely GM
Other Sources of GMOs:
-Dairy products from cows injected with rbGH.
-Vegetarian or Vegan Rennet (recombinant chymosin) in hard cheese
-Food additives, enzymes, flavorings, and processing agents, including rennet used to make hard cheese, and GMO derived sweeteners Aspartame (NutraSweet®) and Equal.
-Meat, eggs, and dairy products from animals who’ve eaten GM feed including packaged food from feed stores. Organic is not enough. Must say “Tested for No GMO”.
-Honey and bee pollen that may have GM sources of pollen
-Contamination or pollination caused by GM seeds or pollen
Probably Genetically Modified:
•Vegetable oil made with soy, corn, cottonseed, and/or canola: vegetable oil, margarines, vegetable fat like Crisco
•Ingredients derived from soybeans: Soy flour, soy protein, soy isolates, soy isoflavones, soy lecithin, vegetable proteins, textured vegetable protein (TVP), tofu, tamari, tempeh, and soy protein supplements.
•Ingredients derived from corn: Corn flour, corn gluten, corn masa, corn starch, corn syrup, cornmeal, and High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).
Foods That Generally Contain GM Ingredients in the USA:
Cosmetics, Soaps, Detergents, Shampoo, Bubble bath,Infant formula, Salad dressings, Bread, Cereal, Hamburgers and Hotdogs, Margarine,Mayonnaise, Crackers, Cookies, Chocolate, Candy, Fried food, Chips,Veggie burgers, Meat substitutes, Ice cream, Frozen yogurt, Tofu, Tamari, Soy sauce, Soy cheese, Tomato sauce. Protein powder,Baking powder (sometimes contains corn starch), Powdered sugar (often contains corn starch), Confectioner’s glaze, Alcohol, Vanilla and Vanilla extract (may contain corn syrup), Powdered sugar, Peanut butter, Enriched flour, Pasta, Malt,White vinegar

Agreed Cathe’. It doesn’t take many of us to stop them, as seen in the UK example where the major supermarkets removed all GMO products almost overnight when a small percentage of customers boycotted them:

Sigh …
I know this is important, but I wish the video didn’t run so dang long.
I’m going to have to bookmark it for later viewing..
Anyway, thanks for all the good information.

great video set, believe me you probably dont know everything about it, watch this.
Comment by hayden — January 13, 2010 @ 5:07 pm
Its worth watching the whole video as soon as you get time but I agree that if more people are to understand the subject, a shorter video with all the facts should be made. Has anyone come across better material that can be printed out?
