I agree 100%, Craig. I'm concerned that the focus on reducing emissions is missing this vital point. The steady de-vegetation (desertification) of the Earth's surface has been altering the climate for centuries. Demolishing Australia's entire industrial system and removing all the cars would only reduce total global emissions by 1%, while the land desparately needs more humus and vegetation. The Aral sea was not destroyed by Co2, and the US dust bowl was not caused by Co2. Both were the result of disasterous land management practices.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that we need to de-industrialize society, not to return to a pre-Industrial past, but to move towards a post-Industrial future. Unfortunately I have no idea how this might be achieved...

It can mean that, of course, but you should avoid it because you're trying to send a message to people who may very well see this world as a private god given resource just waiting to be consumed.

I hear you Daniel, although when I say 'our', why can't that mean 'our' in the sense of all organisms we share this planet with. :)

Our oceans, our flora, our fauna - and ours in the sense of stewardship, not domination.

"Our before-abundant oceans..."

You should be aware that it's not really our. We consider everything to be our own, and once we become so confident about it, there's nothing which can stop the explatation.

Oceans are noones. They are on their own.

Keep up the otherwise excellent work, Craig :)
