Very interesting article. In light of it though it's a pity to see that permaculture groups around the world display the same kind of power grabbing struggle that you so aptly describe in your article. There is no real cooperation, there is no real push to 'empower' people - it's all about who gets to run the show locally, and certainly not to the benefit of the whole community.

Our local permaculture group's motto is 'a fair share of the surplus', however it should really be 'the permaculture guild's share of YOUR surplus', as they are popping out more children than they can care for, all the while screaming and shouting that 'we' need to work together (although I haven't seen much production or sharing coming from any of them). Unfortunately it seems that as soon as some kind of cooperative forms (including permaculture groups), the same kind of power struggles erupt that go on in any kind of organisation or corporation.

Permaculture has some good points but the internal politics that come with it make it just as flawed as the next group of people who want to run the show.

Any articles about cooperation, freedom, or collectively growing food that are produced under the permaculture banner as a result cannot be taken seriously, as the reality of what happens on the ground is very different.

How about you permaculture evangelists engage in a little less talking and more action, it would really be a lot more useful to your community - and it also helps weed out the do-ers from the say-ers, and the real cooperative people from those who merely take.
