I live about 40 mins north of brisbane, so the weather is close to sub-tropical, but can get rather dry. Some of the native plants/weeds are edible, and I encourage their growth here;
New zealand spinach-leaves(cook),
Solanum nigrum-berries when black(raw/cook),
Emelia sonchifolia-young leaves(raw/cook),
Geitonoplesium sp(Scrambling lilly)-young vine tips(raw/cook),
Native hibiscus-young tips/shoots and flower petals(raw/cook) .
Others are not native, but grow well;
Dandelion-young leaves(raw/cook),
Dock (rumex sp)-young leaves(cook)
Plus many more I could list with other edible parts eg-tubers, berries etc.

Some other good choices (growing well in SW Florida):
Hibiscus acetosella= flowers and leaves raw,
Bassella alba, and
"Basket vine" Camissoa altissima= (i never had this but I heard it is a good perennial green if cooked. I saw it growing a echo farm in Ft. myers,FL)
Anybody know more about Basket vine?
